Better on Phones, and One Tap to Keep Your Server

A batch of improvements to how Zeros Host works on a phone, plus a much shorter route from "my trial is running" to "this is my server now". Forms no longer zoom when you tap them, the game picker is right at the top, and you can keep your trial server without rebuilding anything.

Most of this release is about the phone. A lot of people find us on a phone, read the pricing on a phone, and start a trial on a phone, so it is worth getting right.

Picking your game is the first thing you see

Our pricing is per game: Garry's Mod, Minecraft, Rust and the rest each get plans sized for what that game actually needs. The row you pick from now sits directly under the heading, so on a phone you see all eight games without scrolling. Garry's Mod takes a larger card at the top, since it is the game most people come to us for.

The order matches the decision you are actually making: read the headline, pick your game, then look at plans.

Forms no longer zoom when you tap them

If you have ever tapped a field on a website and had the whole page lurch and zoom in, forcing you to pinch back out before you can type, that was happening on ours. It is an iPhone behaviour that kicks in whenever a form field's text is slightly too small.

Every form on the site now sits above that threshold on phones: signing up, signing in, the contact and feedback forms, and all fifteen of our free tools, including the DarkRP job creator and the server.cfg generator. Nothing changed on desktop.

While we were in there we also stopped a few pages drifting sideways on a phone, which happened when a long file path refused to wrap.

Keeping your trial server is now one tap

This is the change we are happiest about.

Your 24 hour trial gives you a real server. You install addons, set up jobs, build a world, get your friends on. Until now, if you decided you wanted to keep it, the dashboard sent you to the general pricing page, and buying there would have built you a brand new, empty server. Everything you had set up stayed behind.

That is not what anyone wants, and it was never what we intended.

Now, while your trial is running, there is a Keep this server button right under the countdown. One tap, pick a plan, and the server you are already playing on becomes yours. It keeps running while you do it. Your world, your settings, your addons and your files stay exactly where they are. Nothing to rebuild, nothing to migrate, no downtime.

If your trial has already ended, the same applies. Your server is not deleted the moment the clock runs out. It is suspended and held for you, and the button now takes you straight to the page that unsuspends that server rather than starting a fresh one.

A heads up before the clock runs out

We also switched on the reminder we had written but never turned on: a short email a couple of hours before your trial ends, telling you how long is left and giving you the one tap option to keep the server if you want it. If you do not want it, you do not have to do anything at all. The server simply stops, and we still hold your files for a while in case you change your mind.

No one enjoys finding out their server vanished because they lost track of a 24 hour window.

Smaller things in the same release

  • The game cards on the pricing page are laid out properly now, with no odd single card stranded on its own row.
  • Several pages that could be dragged sideways on a phone no longer can.
  • The floating "Start free trial" button no longer appears on the pricing page, where it was sitting on top of the game picker it was meant to lead you to.

If something on the site looks wrong or just reads oddly on your phone, tell us on the feedback page or in Discord. Several of the fixes above came from exactly that.
